Just a few days after Google unveiled its latest AR smart glasses, a new report indicates that Apple might be gearing up to introduce its own variant of smart eyewear.
As reported by Bloomberg, Apple plans to launch its long-awaited smart glasses in 2026. These glasses are anticipated to feature integrated microphones, speakers, and cameras, with a significant emphasis on AI-driven functionalities. Users are expected to be able to request directions, access live language translation, listen to music, and more — all through voice-activated commands.

Nevertheless, contrary to Google’s newly presented Android XR glasses, Apple’s forthcoming device will likely not include augmented reality (AR) support. It’s also uncertain whether Apple will provide similar levels of customization and brand collaborations — akin to Google’s partnerships with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster — to facilitate more individualized styles.
Bloomberg draws parallels between Apple’s anticipated glasses and Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which also feature voice-activated AI capabilities but do not offer any mixed reality or AR display.
This development comes on the heels of a succession of changing narratives regarding Apple’s aspirations in wearable technology. Earlier this year, Bloomberg stated that Apple had abandoned its plans for AR glasses completely. However, just a few months later, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman clarified that Apple is still developing smart glasses — albeit without AR functionalities. The latest report seems to correspond with that revised perspective.
For those who recall the infamous failure of Google Glass as a consumer item a decade ago, the prospect of smart glasses returning may appear astonishing. Yet with AI now taking center stage, tech powerhouses like Apple and Google are evidently wagering on a more intelligent, practical era of wearable devices.
