**Apple Unveils New iOS Functionality to Share Location of Lost Luggage with Airlines**
Misplaced your baggage during a recent flight? Don’t fret—soon you’ll be able to share its precise location with the airline.
On Monday, Apple unveiled a new iOS functionality named **Share Item Location**, which enables users to share the real-time location of lost or misplaced belongings with third parties, including airlines. This feature is compatible with accessories that utilize Apple’s **Find My** capability, like AirTags.
To activate the function, users simply launch the **Find My** app and create a **Share Item Location** link for a particular item. Once shared, the recipient receives a link directing them to an interactive map showing the item’s current location, complete with real-time updates if the item shifts position.

“The Find My network along with AirTags is proving to be an effective tool for travelers, providing crucial location insights when bags go missing or are mishandled,” stated Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services. “With Share Item Location, we are thrilled to offer users a convenient way to share this information directly with third parties such as airlines, all while maintaining their privacy.”
The feature is currently accessible in the **iOS 18.2 beta** and is anticipated to be rolled out more widely soon.
Once the lost item has been retrieved, the shared location will automatically be deactivated, ensuring that tracking ceases when it is no longer needed.
Numerous travelers, including the writer of this article, have already utilized **AirTags** to monitor lost luggage, facilitating swifter recovery. With this new feature, Apple aims to integrate it into airlines’ customer service.
Apple reports that over 15 airlines will soon begin accepting **Find My** item locations as part of their customer service system. These airlines encompass **Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic,** and **Vueling**. Apple states these airlines will be incorporated into the program in the upcoming months, with more to come.
Apple has stressed that the feature is built with privacy considerations. The process of sharing an item’s location is **end-to-end encrypted** and **anonymous**, guaranteeing that sensitive information remains protected. Once the item is back in your hands, the shared location is automatically turned off.
This new feature signifies a major advancement in how travelers and airlines manage lost luggage, enhancing the efficiency and security of the process.
