Apple is slowly rolling out more AI-driven functionalities for iPhone users, yet there’s an escalating cost tied to it—particularly regarding storage capacity.
In recent months, the internal storage necessary to install **Apple Intelligence** on compatible devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs, has nearly doubled. As indicated in a notice on [Apple’s official website](https://support.apple.com/en-us/121115) (as reported by [9to5Mac](https://9to5mac.com/2025/01/03/apple-intelligence-now-requires-almost-double-iphone-storage/)), installing Apple Intelligence now requires 7GB of storage space.
In comparison, when Apple Intelligence was initially launched with **iOS 18.1**, it needed just 4GB of storage. However, following the release of **iOS 18.2**, which added new features like Genmoji, the storage requirements rose substantially. As Apple continues to enhance the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, users can anticipate further increases in its storage demands. Currently, the oldest iPhone model that supports Apple Intelligence is the **iPhone 15 Pro**, which offers a base storage option of 128GB.
It’s also important to point out that Apple does not permit users to install specific features of Apple Intelligence selectively. It’s an all-or-nothing system—you either install the complete suite of features or opt out entirely.
For a lot of users, this increase in storage needs might not present an issue. Those who don’t often fill up their device storage with photos, videos, or Apple Music downloads may find the extra space manageable. However, for users who are already nearing their storage limits, embracing Apple Intelligence might not be practical—or worth the compromise.
