Apple’s iPhone Fold may be approaching, yet Samsung appears resolute in maintaining its dominance in the foldable smartphone arena. A recent report suggests that Samsung is crafting another foldable device featuring a larger form factor than its existing flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
As reported by the Korean news source Etnews, the Samsung Wide Fold (though it may be rebranded to Samsung W Fold) is set to showcase a 7.6-inch internal display when opened, with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The external display is expected to be 5.4 inches, according to an industry insider.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 boasts an 8-inch display, the forthcoming model won’t show a substantial change in size. Nonetheless, the 4:3 aspect ratio, in contrast to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s almost-square 3:33.3, should allow it to appear more like a traditional tablet when opened.
Samsung additionally provides a flip-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, alongside a tri-folding option, the Galaxy Z TriFold, which already features a nearly 4:3 aspect ratio. Introducing another foldable might cause some confusion, but Samsung seems eager to explore different designs.
The impetus for launching another foldable may stem from Apple’s anticipated iPhone Fold, predicted to have a 4:3 ratio, mimicking a small tablet. If the information holds true, Samsung could be seeking to get ahead of Apple’s arrival in the foldable sector.
The expected launch for both gadgets is set for 2026, indicating that the upcoming year could be pivotal for foldable smartphones, which is an exhilarating possibility.
