Are Yahoo Mail and AOL Facing Downtime? Here’s What We Have Learned.

On Thursday, the email services of Yahoo Mail and AOL appeared to suffer outages.

Users faced a “temporary Error: 15” notification that blocked access to their emails through both Yahoo and AOL, which are subsidiaries of the same parent company.

Down Detector noted an increase in user-reported issues beginning mid-morning for both Yahoo and AOL. By Thursday afternoon, reports appeared to diminish, although it remains uncertain if the issues were rectified. (Note: Down Detector is a subsidiary of Ziff Davis, which owns Mashable.)

Both Yahoo and AOL recognized the problem through similar messages on X.

“We are aware that some users are currently having trouble accessing their accounts,” the messages read. “We are looking into this issue and will share updates as more information is forthcoming. We thank you for your patience and apologize for any trouble this may cause.”

Online, users expressed frustration at the email services being down and made light of individuals still using AOL or Yahoo as their email provider in 2025.
