AT&T and Verizon Announce Complete Recovery After Salt Typhoon Cyberattack

Telecom behemoths AT&T and Verizon have reassured consumers regarding the protection of their networks after a wave of cyberattacks linked to a Chinese hacking group known as Salt Typhoon.

On Monday, AT&T remarked, “At this point, we have detected no activities by nation-state actors within our networks.” The Dallas-based firm highlighted that although investigations into Salt Typhoon’s activities are still in progress, cases of individual data breaches have been “relatively limited.” AT&T is working in conjunction with law enforcement and has started to notify those affected.

This is the first occasion that AT&T and Verizon have publicly recognized being affected by Salt Typhoon. Nevertheless, it seems there is minimal cause for alarm among most customers. Verizon disclosed to *TechCrunch* that the hacking group predominantly aimed at “a small number of prominent customers in government.” In spite of these reassurances, the complete scale of the breach remains unknown.

On Friday, the White House confirmed that AT&T and Verizon were among nine companies targeted by Salt Typhoon. U.S. officials have refrained from naming the ninth company, but Anne Neuberger, the deputy national security advisor for cyber and emerging technologies, revealed that the unidentified entity had access to more than 100,000 routers.

Both AT&T and Verizon are actively enhancing the security of their networks and working to minimize any potential threats resulting from the breach. As the situation develops, the telecom providers are calling for vigilance and collaboration with authorities to tackle the issue.
