Buddy Guy and Miles Caton’s Sinners Tiny Desk Concert is Sheer Blues Enchantment

Iconic musician Buddy Guy showcased the blues at NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, featuring a special appearance by *Sinners* actor Miles Caton. The duo stars together in Ryan Coogler’s Academy Award-nominated blockbuster. Caton portrays the talented blues singer Sammie “Preacher Boy” Moore, whose exceptional music defies the ages (and attracts a band of vampires directly to him). Guy takes on the role of Sammie 60 years later, during his thriving blues career.

Guy opens his Tiny Desk Concert with his 1991 hit “Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues” before transitioning to his rendition of Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man.”

Following these timeless blues numbers, Guy welcomes Caton to perform two tracks from the *Sinners* soundtrack. The first is “Travelin’,” which Sammie performs while cruising with Stack (Michael B. Jordan). Next, Guy and Caton dive into “I Lied to You,” the song that electrifies the crowd in Smoke (also featuring Jordan) and Stack’s juke joint. “I Lied to You,” nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, was penned by Raphael Saadiq and *Sinners* composer Ludwig Göransson.

However, don’t expect Guy and Caton to deliver these songs just as they appear in *Sinners*. Their performances here are rich with blues improvisation and lighthearted exchanges, with Guy infusing his own flair throughout and inviting Caton to participate. For an excellent journey through the blues’ history, this mini concert is unmissable.
