CES 2026: Is a $9,000 OLED Smart Handbag Justifiable?

Handbags have become part of the collection of items featuring superfluous screens. Richard Peuty’s Infinity is a luxurious French purse that incorporates an OLED display within its leather exterior, turning a classic fashion piece into a lively statement accessory. It was presented at CES, distinguishing itself as an endearingly excessive idea.

Infinity’s Kickstarter tiers begin at approximately $800, with the premium Atelier Edition surpassing $9,000, which categorizes it as a luxury item. The highest tier emphasizes exclusivity, with limited production and hand-crafting taking place in France. The bag is made from full-grain leather, sourced and manufactured in Europe, focusing on durability and the potential for repair rather than fast fashion trends. Peuty envisions the OLED screen as a means for the bag to digitally evolve with trends while preserving its tangible appearance.

In terms of aesthetics, Infinity resembles a meticulously structured, upscale leather handbag. The OLED screen is seamlessly integrated into the front, bordered by neat stitching and metal accents, ensuring that the technology does not overshadow the overall design. The display can be altered through the Infinity app on your smartphone.

The OLED screen sits beneath a textured protective layer that mimics the feel of leather, thus avoiding the sensation of interacting with a display. The bag supports wireless charging, provides six to eight hours of display usage, and connects through Bluetooth Low Energy. The tech is crafted to remain subtle, allowing the artistry of the handbag to be highlighted.

While it may appear somewhat extravagant, it is purposefully created for consumers who invest thousands in handbags and seek something distinctive.
