OpenAI has introduced a new image library feature in ChatGPT, providing users with a streamlined way to view and organize their AI-generated images through an elegant sidebar interface.
This newly added capability is currently being implemented across both desktop and mobile versions of ChatGPT and is available to all users—regardless of whether they have a paid subscription. OpenAI demonstrated the feature on X (previously Twitter) to illustrate its seamless functionality. If you’ve generated images in ChatGPT before, the image library should already be visible in the left-hand panel. If it isn’t, simply create an image and refresh the page to enable the feature.

Though this update may appear minor, it could indicate a broader strategic direction for OpenAI. As reported by Mashable’s Cecily Mauran, the company might be setting the stage for a social platform focused on AI-generated images. This would enhance the exposure of its image tools and also provide OpenAI with a steady flow of user-generated content and data.
For the time being, it’s merely an image library—but within the larger context of OpenAI’s ambitions, it could represent the initial move toward something significantly broader.
