Storrie and his co-star Hudson Williams have embarked on an extensive promotional tour following the show’s phenomenal success, participating in everything from presenting at the Golden Globes to making their debuts on late-night television. Williams made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Jan. 7, and on Jan. 13, Storrie joined Late Night With Seth Meyers.

During their conversation, Storrie and Meyers discuss his sudden rise to fame and the skills he acquired for the series. Portraying Russian hockey star Ilya Rozanov, Storrie had to learn multiple scenes in Russian and master a Russian accent, a task that entailed taking four hour-long lessons every day for six weeks.

“I completely assumed they had cast a Russian-speaking actor for this role,” Meyers commented to Storrie.

Evidently, some of Heated Rivalry’s Russian cast members thought the same. Storrie shared a story of filming a scene with several Russian background actors, one of whom approached him while he was resetting for another take and began speaking to him in Russian.

“She presumed my parents were Russian, and that I spoke Russian at home with a pseudo-American accent,” he recounted.

Now, Storrie has a ready reply for those who assume he is truly fluent in Russian: “My standard line, I always say in Russian, ‘I speak Russian really poorly.'”

However, Storrie claims that mastering Russian was far less challenging than learning to skate. To learn more about his skating journey and his newfound fame after Heated Rivalry, check out the complete interview above.

Heated Rivalry is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
