Country Set to Prohibit Extended Unskippable Advertisements Next Month

We’ve all experienced annoying, unskippable ads online, particularly YouTube users who are familiar with the challenge. Vietnam is taking measures to reduce this irritation by implementing new regulations that prohibit long, unskippable advertisements, restricting the unskippable duration to merely five seconds, as reported by tech outlet Android Authority. Vietnam News noted that these new rules are set to commence on February 15. As per Vietnam News, “Under the new regulations, viewers should be able to skip video ads and moving image sequences after five seconds.”

While YouTube isn’t the sole platform utilizing unskippable ads, it stands out as perhaps the largest and most prominent instance. Advertising plays a significant role in YouTube’s business model and serves as a crucial source of income for creators. Google revealed last year that it had compensated around $100 billion to creators, artists, and media companies in the four years prior.

Nevertheless, users have voiced their concerns regarding ads becoming increasingly intrusive. Vietnam’s initiative to address this problem could be positively received by YouTube users.
