Critmas came early for Critical Role enthusiasts as the inaugural episode of The Mighty Nein is now accessible for free on YouTube.
Scheduled to debut on Nov. 19, The Mighty Nein is Critical Role’s second animated series in collaboration with Prime Video, succeeding The Legend of Vox Machina. Like The Legend of Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein showcases a collection of unexpected heroes in Exandria. Nevertheless, it sets itself apart with longer episodes and a darker atmosphere, contrasting the more whimsical tone of The Legend of Vox Machina. (Some humor is still anticipated, though.)
The initial episode, “Mote of Possibility,” presents three primary heroes: ragged wizard Caleb Widogast (Liam O’Brien), tipsy goblin Nott the Brave (Sam Riegel), and fiery monk Beauregard Lionett (Marisha Ray). Initially independent wanderers, they quickly find themselves united by an escalating conflict between the Kryn Dynasty and the Dwendalian Empire.
The episode’s focal point is a wizard heist aimed at the Luxon Beacon, a formidable artifact, making it essential viewing for its blend of magic and action.
The first three episodes of The Mighty Nein will launch on Nov. 19 on Prime Video, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday.
