Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley Celebrate *The Substance* at the Golden Globes

*Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley Bring Their Onscreen Rivalry to Life at the 82nd Golden Globes*

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, the stars of *The Substance*, graced the stage at the 82nd Golden Globes on Sunday — a situation their characters, Elizabeth Sparkle and Sue, would never agree to.

The pair presented the award for Best Television Male Actor – Drama Series, which was awarded to Hiroyuki Sanada for his role in *Shōgun*. However, their moment at the podium soon transformed into a playful recreation of the competitive friction between their characters from Coralie Fargeat’s acclaimed body horror film.

“What are you doing here?” Moore inquired of Qualley with feigned annoyance.

“What do you mean, what am I doing here, Demi?” Qualley responded quickly.

“This is my week,” Moore joked. “You have to respect the balance, remember?”

The exchange amused the audience, providing a lighthearted reference to the dynamic between their roles in *The Substance*. Both Moore and Qualley received nominations for their performances in the film, with Moore winning the Golden Globe for Best Female Actor – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy. The film itself garnered five nominations, including Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture in the Musical/Comedy category.

In Fargeat’s daring and shocking movie, Moore embodies Elizabeth Sparkle, a former ’80s aerobics legend who employs a groundbreaking biological chemical to fashion a “better version” of herself. The outcome is Sue (portrayed by Qualley), and the two agree to alternate weeks of existence, pretending the other doesn’t exist. However, Sue has her own agenda, setting the stage for a tense and unpredictable narrative. (*For more on the film’s conclusion, check out Mashable’s explainer.*)

The playful banter between Moore and Qualley was a rare instance of levity in what has been a notably subdued Golden Globes ceremony this year.
