Disney reveals that Jimmy Kimmel Live! is set to resume on Tuesday.

Disney revealed on Monday that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would be back on ABC on Tuesday night, overturning its prior choice from Sept. 17 to pause the late-night program indefinitely. This suspension came after host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue regarding far-right commentator Charlie Kirk’s murderer, which met with Republican criticism and resulted in FCC chair Brendan Carr urging ABC to act against Kimmel. In response, Nexstar Media Group declared that its ABC affiliates would indefinitely pre-empt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Disney clarified the suspension and its reversal in a statement, noting, “Last Wednesday, we opted to halt production on the show to prevent exacerbating a sensitive situation during a poignant time for our nation. This was a decision made because we believed some of the remarks were poorly timed and consequently insensitive.” The statement added, “We have spent recent days engaging in thoughtful discussions with Jimmy, and following those talks, we decided to bring the show back on Tuesday.”

The suspension encountered considerable backlash, with fellow late-night hosts and countless Hollywood celebrities condemning Disney’s decision as a threat to free speech. In protest, users of Disney+ and Hulu terminated their subscriptions. According to CNBC, Kimmel will address the show’s suspension upon his return on Sept. 23.
