After the emotional highs and lows of the recent holiday special, *Doctor Who* is gearing up for a thrilling new season brimming with sci-fi adventures and timey-wimey fun. Disney+ and the BBC have made it official that Ncuti Gatwa’s second season as the Doctor is set to debut on April 12. Joining in on the excitement, *The Traitors* host Alan Cumming will be part of the cast.
As previously announced, the Fifteenth Doctor will be joined by a new companion, Belinda Chandra, portrayed by Varada Sethu. Viewers might remember Sethu from her role in the high-octane episode [“Boom.”](https://mashable.com/article/doctor-who-boom-easter-eggs) In addition, Cumming, who played King James I in the 2018 episode “The Witchfinders,” is making his return to the *Doctor Who* realm—this time as the voice of Mr. Ring-a-Ding.
In a press release from Disney+, it describes Mr. Ring-a-Ding as “a cheerful, humorous, singalong cartoon residing in Sunny Town with his buddy Sunshine Sally.” However, in the second episode of the upcoming season, he breaks free from his animated existence and steps into reality—only to find himself quite dissatisfied with his new surroundings.
Showrunner, executive producer, and writer [Russell T Davies](https://mashable.com/article/doctor-who-steven-moffat-russell-davies) shared his enthusiasm for Cumming’s character, remarking, “Only Alan Cumming could infuse a runaway cartoon with such cleverness, malice, danger, and joy. He brings an even wilder and crazier aspect to the *Doctor Who* universe, and it’s a true privilege to have him aboard the TARDIS.”
Though the wait may seem lengthy, anticipation is certainly growing. *Doctor Who* Season 2 is poised to premiere on Disney+ and BBC on April 12.
