The **Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)** is allegedly in the process of developing a tailored AI chatbot intended for U.S. government personnel, possibly as part of Elon Musk’s expansive strategy to supplant federal employees with automation.

As per **WIRED**, DOGE is working on a generative AI chatbot named **”GSAi”** for the **U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)**—the agency tasked with overseeing federal buildings, IT systems, and procurement. The chatbot aims to boost efficiency by evaluating contracts and producing documents for government staff.

In a recording acquired by WIRED, **Thomas Shedd**, who leads **GSA’s Technology Transformation Services (TTS)**, mentioned that the AI initiative was already underway before he took office. Shedd, previously a mechanical engineer at Tesla, joined the GSA shortly after **Donald Trump** assumed the presidency. He has advocated for the incorporation of AI and automation across federal departments, including the training of AI to code governmental software.

**”The notable difference now is that we might be constructing the entire system internally and doing so rapidly,”** Shedd clarified. **”This is connected to grasping how the government is allocating funds.”**

Since taking office, Trump has systematically reduced federal expenditure, with the GSA reportedly needing to **halve its budget**. These austerity measures encompass **layoffs** and **ending leases on all federal office properties**, which total around **7,500**. The administration appears focused on achieving a workforce reduction that would make office space unnecessary, even amidst a **return-to-office mandate** for federal staff.

At first, DOGE looked into utilizing existing AI solutions but chose to create **GSAi** after finding that the available models did not have the required data access. Nevertheless, the agency has still utilized third-party AI tools in other capacities. This week, **The Washington Post** reported that DOGE has input sensitive **U.S. Department of Education** data into AI software to scrutinize spending habits.

While AI chatbots can provide benefits, they are also recognized for being **inaccurate** and **misleading**, leading to worries regarding their dependability for essential government tasks. Notwithstanding these concerns, Musk and Trump seem determined to adopt AI as a substitute for the federal employees they intend to remove.

DOGE has been actively advocating for workforce cuts, offering **buyouts** to around **two million federal employees** last week.
