Earlier this year, when Pocket was discontinued, it impacted more than just those seeking a simpler method to save articles. Kobo users lost their capability to read articles directly from the web on their eReaders, which was a considerable setback for numerous readers, myself included.
Kobo has now declared that it will substitute Pocket with Instapaper, a service akin to Pocket that provides both complimentary and premium subscription options. This modification enables us to bookmark articles for later reading rather than feeling pressured to read them at once. This update became available to users on Thursday.
Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo, mentioned in a press release, “At Kobo, our mission is to enhance reading experiences for everyone, everywhere. With the integration of Instapaper’s fantastic ‘read it later’ feature, we now have an ideal solution for the extensive reading available on the internet. After Pocket unexpectedly ceased operations, we realized we needed to discover a new manner for our readers to delve into their favorite online articles right on their Kobo. Collaborating with Instapaper has been a fantastic experience, the team has been wonderful to partner with, and we’re excited to provide this integration so readers can continue enjoying their beloved long-form content, without distractions, on their Kobo eReader.”
Here’s how to download articles straight from the internet onto your Kobo using Instapaper.
**Total Time**: 1 min
**What You Need**:
– Kobo
– Instapaper account
**Step 1: Go to “My Articles”**
Tap the hamburger menu labeled “More” in the bottom right corner of your Kobo and select “My Articles.”
**Step 2: Connect with Instapaper**
After you select “My Articles,” you will see a page displaying: “read articles on your eReader with Instapaper.” Click “Link with Instapaper” and follow the instructions on your eReader, which includes scanning a QR code with your phone or entering a code at kobo.com/instapaper.
**Step 3: Sync it up**
Once your Kobo is linked with Instapaper, remain on a WiFi network to synchronize all your saved articles from Instapaper to your Kobo. Your articles will be stored for you to read at any time.
If you cannot see the option to access your articles when you click “more,” you will need to update your Kobo. The update will display “Farewell to Pocket” and “Hello to Instapaper.”
To transfer all your Pocket data to Instapaper, export your Pocket information and import it into Instapaper.
Now there’s truly no reason to keep so many tabs open.
