Today represents an important milestone for streamers raising their subscription fees. Disney+ and HBO Max have both elevated their prices, and now Dropout is launching a new pricing level. Enthusiasts of Dropout, recognized for shows like Game Changer, Dimension 20, and Crowd Control, might anticipate that CEO Sam Reich will handle this differently from his rivals.
Following a recent increase in their price from $5.99 to $6.99, Dropout has unveiled a Superfan tier. In a video on Instagram and YouTube, Reich shared that this new tier was motivated by the fans’ responses to the price hike in May. Rather than voicing grievances, many subscribers showed a readiness to pay more. Now, they have an option to do so.
“We believe Dropout should be priced roughly at the same level as a large sandwich,” Reich states. “Conversely, we would like your support. Dropout is becoming pricier as we generate more content and compensate our team better. If we are to venture into scripted series and animation, we require extra backing.”
The Superfan tier does not include “exclusive episodes, early access, or complimentary merchandise.” The initial tier still grants access to all current shows. The Superfan tier is characterized as a “Dropout Fan Club,” offering “Patreon-style benefits” such as a behind-the-scenes blog, chances to buy exclusive merchandise, and early access to live events like Dropout Improv and Dimension 20 Live.
The Superfan tier is priced at $129.99 per year, but for a limited time, Dropout’s registration site is offering it at $97.49 for the first year.
“If you wish to contribute more, you can,” Reich wraps up. Otherwise, the initial tier remains the same, and Dropout continues to promote password sharing. As Sam mentions, “If you’re using a friend’s account, you arguably have the best deal available.”
