Dwayne Johnson headlines A24’s forthcoming film The Smashing Machine, taking on the role of iconic MMA fighter and ex-UFC champion Mark Kerr. The initial teaser trailer for the movie has just been unveiled.

Helmed and scripted by Benny Safdie, renowned for Uncut Gems, the film chronicles Kerr’s turbulent path through the peaks of his fighting career and the valleys of his personal struggles, which include his confrontations with addiction. Johnson, celebrated for his performances in the Fast and Furious series and his WWE background, embraces the challenging character of Kerr.

The cast also includes Emily Blunt as Kerr’s former wife, Dawn Staples, Ryan Bader as fellow UFC champion Mark Coleman, and Oleksandr Usyk as MMA fighter Igor Vovchanchyn.

The Smashing Machine is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 3.
