Pixar’s “Elio” features two scenes during the credits: one concludes the movie in a heartwarming manner, while the other alludes to Pixar’s upcoming film, “Hoppers.” Let’s take a look at them.
The story revolves around an 11-year-old orphan named Elio Solís (voiced by Yonas Kibreab), who gets kidnapped by aliens and transported to the Communiverse, where he is mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader. By the end of the film, Elio forms a friendship with the alien Glordon (voiced by Remy Edgerly) and receives an offer to become Earth’s ambassador, despite the dishonesties he previously told. Nevertheless, Elio opts to remain on Earth with his Aunt Olga (voiced by Zoe Saldaña).
In the mid-credits scene, Elio keeps in touch with his extraterrestrial friends. He and his new human companion, Bryce (voiced by Dylan Gilmer), operate ham radios on the beach, donning Masters of Ham attire, signifying Elio’s new ties within the ham radio circle. They manage to establish contact with Glordon, ensuring their friendship continues.
The end-credits scene hints at 2026’s “Hoppers.” A lizard inputs a lizard emoji into a phone, while a text-to-speech reader announces “lizard” each time it appears. In “Hoppers,” researchers find a method to transfer consciousness into animal forms for communication purposes. Animal enthusiast Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda) takes this opportunity to inhabit a beaver’s body and lead animals against Mayor Jerry’s (voiced by Jon Hamm) detrimental construction project. Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter likened it to “Avatar, but cuter.” During a presentation, Docter shared footage of “Hoppers,” featuring Mabel and the lizard from the “Elio” end scene using text-to-speech to interact with Mayor Jerry, indicating the potential for more animal emojis in “Hoppers.”
“Elio” is currently showing in theaters. “Hoppers” is set to debut on March 6, 2026.
