Elon Musk momentarily paused his various enterprises on Tuesday to reveal the newest iteration of xAI’s AI chatbot, **Grok 3**. The tech visionary and “special government employee” demonstrated the updated AI model during a **live-streamed presentation on X**, the platform he controls.
### Grok 3 Introduced
Musk was accompanied by xAI co-founders **Jimmy Ba and Yuhuai “Tony” Wu**, alongside lead engineer **Igor Babuschkin**, to highlight Grok 3’s **enhanced reasoning, speed, and improved training**.
> “We’re thrilled to unveil Grok 3, which we believe is considerably more proficient than Grok 2 in a very brief timeframe,” Musk remarked. “Our dedicated team has put in immense effort over these past months to develop Grok to its fullest potential, enabling us to offer access to everyone.”
The latest model, succeeding **Grok-2**, is now accessible to **Premium+ X subscribers**.
### Grok 3’s Capabilities
During the demonstration, Ba disclosed that Grok 3 had been evaluated under the codename **”chocolate”** on the **LMSYS leaderboard**, a ranking system for large language models (LLMs). He asserted that even the early iterations of Grok 3 were surpassing rivals such as **Gemini-2 Pro, DeepSeek-V3, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and GPT-4o**.
The launch of Grok 3 follows the rollout of a **standalone iOS app** for the chatbot in January. The AI assistant first appeared in **December 2023**, shortly after Musk established **xAI in July 2023**. Nevertheless, Grok has encountered some backlash, including producing **fake headlines** that surfaced in X’s trending news section.
### Features of Grok 3
To illustrate Grok 3’s analytical skills in physics, Babuschkin requested the AI to **create code for an animated 3D visualization of a spacecraft launching from Earth, landing on Mars, and then returning to Earth at the next available launch window**. The “spontaneous” outcome can be observed around **30 minutes into the livestream**.
The team also posed a challenge for Grok 3 to **write code that combines Tetris and Bejeweled into a new, playable game**. Musk hailed this as **”the inception of creativity.”**
### X Launches “Deep Search”
Another significant announcement during the presentation was the launch of **Deep Search**, a novel AI-enhanced search feature for X. Ba portrayed it as a **”next-generation search engine”** created to assist not only engineers and researchers but also regular users in finding answers.
To illustrate its capabilities, Ba queried **”When is the next Starship launch?”** using Deep Search. The AI-produced answer was **February 24**, with Wikipedia cited as one of the primary sources. Musk interjected, **”It might be sooner.”**
With the rollout of Grok 3 and the launch of Deep Search, xAI continues its advancement in the AI sector, striving to compete with leading companies like OpenAI and Google.
