Elon Musk Warns Against Purchasing the Roadster Due to Safety Issues

A few weeks after making peculiar comments regarding the Tesla Roadster on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Elon Musk has returned with more insights. This time, he is cautioning podcast listeners and prospective Tesla Roadster purchasers against buying the Roadster if their main concern is safety.

“Safety is not the prime… is not the main goal,” Musk expressed during an episode of the tech podcast Moonshots with Peter Diamandis.

“If safety is your number one goal, don’t buy the Roadster,” Musk reiterated, stressing that safety is not the primary focus for those considering Ferraris and other performance vehicles.

Musk elaborated on his statements by drawing parallels to the safety preferences of consumers interested in Ferraris or similar high-performance cars.

“We’ll strive not to kill anyone in this car,” Musk remarked. “It’ll be the best of the last of the human-driven cars. The best of the last.”

Despite Musk’s numerous inaccurate forecasts regarding autonomous vehicles, he continues to maintain that the Roadster will be “the best of the last cars” that lack full autonomy.

Last November on The Joe Rogan Experience, Musk hinted that the much-anticipated Roadster—a car Tesla began accepting preorders for in 2017 and has still not launched—might possess the ability to fly.

Musk also assured that a Roadster demonstration would be shown before the end of 2025. Unsurprisingly, that did not materialize.

As TechRadar points out, Musk’s past over-the-top assertions about the Roadster include it being fitted with a thruster to go from zero to 60mph in under one second, offering 10,000Nm of torque, and achieving a top speed surpassing 250mph.

Musk now claims that Tesla will officially reveal the Roadster on April 1, 2026—April Fools’ Day. So, is he being serious, or is this yet another jest? Your guess is as good as ours.
