Since its introduction, ESPN+ has encountered various queries and apprehensions from its users, mainly regarding the absence of live streams for ESPN broadcasts. As a dissatisfied user, I’m pleased to see these matters finally being tackled. On Aug. 21, ESPN will unveil a revamped direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service.
Enhanced for greater variety and flexibility, ESPN DTC will present two subscriptions: ESPN Unlimited and ESPN Select. The ESPN app will also receive updates for a more tailored and engaging viewing experience.
This launch coincides with the kickoff of the NFL season, college football, the US Open tennis, international soccer, and much more. It will also be launched on the same day as Fox’s inaugural streaming service, Fox One.
Previously, accessing ESPN’s conventional TV networks through streaming necessitated a TV subscription. ESPN+ did not provide live NFL games on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The updated ESPN alters that.
The ESPN DTC service encompasses ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN on ABC, ESPN+, ESPN3, SECN+, and ACCNX. It is also expected to feature NFL Network and RedZone, presenting 47,000 live events annually, in addition to on-demand replays, studio shows, and original programming.
The subscription is termed ESPN Unlimited, with a streamlined choice called ESPN Select. The Select level is basically ESPN+, rebranded as a more budget-friendly option. It encompasses over 32,000 live sports events annually, along with exclusive shows and content. Existing ESPN+ subscribers will automatically transition to ESPN Select subscribers on Aug. 21.
The ESPN Unlimited subscription is priced at $29.99 per month or $299.99 per year. The ESPN Select subscription stays at $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year.
As a welcome incentive, ESPN provides the Unlimited plan bundled with Disney+ and Hulu (with ads) for $29.99 per month during the first year. Additionally, there’s a bundle available for ESPN Unlimited and Fox One at $39.99 per month.
Beginning Aug. 21, you can enroll in ESPN’s new Unlimited plan or bundle at stream.ESPN.com. Current ESPN+ subscribers will automatically transition to ESPN Select subscribers, as will those with existing Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundles.
