The second season of Fallout is loaded with Easter eggs and references to the post-apocalyptic Bethesda franchises it is inspired by, including the intimidating foes that players attempt to avoid. Cooper (Walton Goggins) and Lucy (Ella Purnell) came across radscorpions earlier this season, but in Season 2, episode 4, they confront one of Fallout’s most fearsome enemies.

The Deathclaw has made its entrance.

At the start of the fourth episode of Prime Video’s series, the scene shifts back to the Alaskan Front amidst the conflict against the People’s Liberation Army of China, a crucial event in the Fallout series. Cooper (Walton Goggins) finds himself on the front lines, testing the T-45 power armor for the U.S. Marines. He instructs his companion Dallas Goldtooth (Charles Whiteknife) to return to base just before he hears a strange animal sound, as a horned beast steps out from the flames. While enemy troops surround Cooper, the creature takes them down effortlessly, unveiling its reptilian visage, sharp claws, and elongated tail, providing Cooper with a terrifying glimpse of its jaws.

Fans will immediately recognize this beast as a Deathclaw, one of the top predators featured in nearly every Fallout installment. These creatures are formidable and can be incredibly difficult to take down without the benefits of the game’s V.A.T.S. system (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System).

Regrettably for the characters in the Fallout TV series, they do not have access to V.A.T.S., and the Deathclaws return when Cooper and Lucy come across one of these colossal beasts upon their arrival in New Vegas during the same episode. Outside the renowned Gomorrah Hotel and Casino, a memorable spot from Fallout: New Vegas, they notice the area unsettlingly devoid of people but filled with irradiated, ancient eggs. Danger is on the horizon.
