Most previews for *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* have centered on the primary superhero group, but the concluding preview before its July 25 debut highlights the film’s antagonists. Julia Garner takes on the role of the Silver Surfer, who comes to a retro-futuristic Earth to issue a grave warning. She proclaims the imminent threat posed by Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a cosmic entity known for consuming planets, with Earth being his next target.
While earlier trailers have kept Galactus’s face under wraps, this one reveals more of the powerful villain, showcasing his colossal scale in relation to Earth. The Fantastic Four — portrayed by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach — are depicted fleeing in terror from his domain, significantly heightening the stakes.
Despite the encroaching menace, *Fantastic Four: First Steps* vows not to be wholly grim. Director Matt Shakman (*WandaVision*) along with screenwriters Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson emphasize the familial relationships within the Fantastic Four, spotlighting Reed’s (Pascal) and Sue’s (Kirby) new roles as parents and the witty exchanges between Johnny (Quinn) and Ben (Moss-Bachrach).
A striking scene in the trailer features Ben/The Thing’s hesitation to say his catchphrase, “It’s clobberin’ time.” “That’s just in the cartoon,” Ben comments to a fan. Nonetheless, it appears likely that the Thing will ultimately deliver his legendary line in the film. We’ll discover the outcome on July 25.
*The Fantastic Four: First Steps* arrives in theaters on July 25.
