LAIKA, the creative studio renowned for its stop-motion animations like *Coraline*, *ParaNorman*, and *Kubo and the Two Strings*, has presented an initial glimpse of its forthcoming film, *Wildwood*. The teaser alone implies it will be yet another extraordinary, technically remarkable production.
Adapted from Colin Meloy’s novel, *Wildwood* whisks viewers away to a fantastical world just outside Portland, Oregon, where Prue McKeel (voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee) encounters bandits and conversing animals in her quest to save her baby brother.
The protector of Wildwood is the General (voiced by Angela Bassett), a powerful warrior and a majestic golden eagle. In the sneak peek, the General accompanies Prue on her journey.
The preview highlights the intricate technical artistry involved in bringing the General to life. Animators designed multiple nature-inspired models to replicate the General’s avian movements, and designers affixed 9,000 feathers to two specially designed puppets for flight sequences and precise performance control. The outcome is stunning, as captured in footage of the animators at work.
The concept art and clips in the initial look also showcase a magical forest brimming with wonders and intriguing creatures. Watch the complete teaser for more behind-the-scenes revelations and snippets of Prue’s adventure in Wildwood.
*Wildwood* is set to hit theaters soon.
