Google’s AI Gemini will now automatically condense lengthy email threads for certain users, as stated by the company in a blog entry.
In the past, users needed to select “Summarize this email” for Gemini to produce key points. Now, if users have smart features enabled in Gmail, Chat, Meet, and Workspace, they will automatically show up “where a summary will be useful,” such as with extensive threads or conversations with multiple replies. Currently, this capability is only accessible in English.
If you’re utilizing Gmail with an Admin, such as a workplace or educational institution, the Admin has the ability to enable or disable these smart settings. As per Google’s assistance page, these features are deactivated by default in Europe and Japan.
This marks the continuation of Google integrating AI into every product, including Gmail and now Chrome. During its annual I/O event earlier this month, Google revealed additional AI functionalities coming to Gmail, featuring smart replies and meeting scheduling.
If AI has appeared in your Google email and you’d like to disable it, here’s a guide on how to turn off Gemini in Gmail.
