Gemini to Launch a Pause Function Prior to Ceasing Listening

For the last ten to twenty years, individuals utilizing voice or AI assistants have faced a frequent problem. You start speaking, unexpectedly pause, and the AI only captures a portion of what you said. Google is working to solve this issue with Gemini via an upcoming update.

As reported by Android Authority, a new microphone feature is currently being evaluated in version 16.42.61 of the Google app. Activating this option allows users to long-press the microphone, enabling the app to listen continuously until the stop button is pressed. This feature is particularly useful for extended queries where users might need to take a moment to think or breathe.

This update will also address the problem of Gemini responding too soon, an issue many users have experienced. Timothy Werth, Mashable’s tech editor, has encountered this while using Gemini, where the chatbot replies too quickly during pauses.

Those who need to carry out multi-step automation or intricate prompts will find it beneficial to articulate them without interruption. Although Gemini has a free-flowing conversation mode through Gemini Live for such situations, it necessitates opening a separate overlay. Having this functionality in the primary interface is beneficial for certain situations.

Android Authority points out that Google is testing UI components, including the Gemini Overlay feature, though it is uncertain if these will be launched. The launch date for the new Gemini microphone feature remains unclear, and it is not known if it will complete testing.
