Google is Allegedly Working on a ‘Fake’ Email Function to Assist Users in Dodging Spam

It seems that Google is preparing to launch a new email functionality, akin to a feature already provided by Apple via iCloud.

As per a report from [Android Authority](https://www.androidauthority.com/google-shielded-email-3499803/), a function known as “Shielded Email” has recently been identified in the Google Autofill settings menu.

At present, selecting this option leads users to a blank Google account page. However, a detailed examination of the code from the latest Google Play Services update (version 24.45.33) uncovers additional insights into what Shielded Email might offer if Google decides to officially implement it.

### What is Shielded Email?

Shielded Email is anticipated to offer Google users a service comparable to Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature accessible through iCloud.

Essentially, this feature would enable users to create random email aliases when registering for websites or email subscriptions. As more platforms require email addresses, users frequently encounter spam and privacy concerns. Shielded Email would empower users to enroll in services and correspond via email without revealing their primary email address.

Moreover, these email aliases could assist users in monitoring which service or website may have shared their email with third parties or spammers.

Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature is included in the iCloud+ subscription service. It remains uncertain whether Google’s Shielded Email will necessitate a paid subscription when it eventually launches.
