### Emergency Services on Android May Soon Receive a Significant Enhancement
Android devices’ emergency services may soon experience a considerable upgrade in their capabilities.
As reported by *Android Authority*, a review of the Google Messages app code during an Android APK teardown uncovered inactive lines of code mentioning “emergency RCS messaging.” RCS, or Rich Communication Services, is a mobile messaging standard that has been embraced by both Google and Apple in recent times.
The emergency messaging feature allows individuals to message 911 rather than make a call, which is vital in perilous situations. Google had previously indicated that this functionality would be integrated into Google Messages, with it currently operational on iPhones.
From Google’s perspective, RCS-enabled emergency texting seems to present multiple benefits. Beyond simply sending a text to a 911 dispatch center, users might also have the ability to transmit images, videos, and their exact location, based on the code that was discovered.
This functionality could prove especially helpful in circumstances where contacting emergency services discreetly is essential.
Given that Apple has now adopted RCS (even though Android text bubbles remain green), iPhones could also gain from these upgrades. While an official launch date for these enhancements has not been announced, the existence of the code in Google Messages indicates they might be on the horizon.
