Google Gemini Is Branching Out to Watches, Cars, and TVs

Google’s robust AI model, Gemini, is set to become even more widely available. Soon, you’ll have the opportunity to utilize Gemini on your smartwatch, within your vehicle, and on your television.

During The Android Show—a preview event preceding Google I/O—Google disclosed that Gemini will be incorporated into Wear OS, Android Auto, Google Built-in for automobiles, and Google TV. This represents a major growth of the AI assistant throughout the Android ecosystem.

For smartwatch enthusiasts, Gemini will be accessible on Wear OS in the upcoming months. Pixel Watch users will be able to interact with Gemini via voice commands to establish reminders, review calendar events, and gather information like dinner reservations. Thanks to its integration with Google Workspace applications, Gemini can fetch pertinent details from your email and calendar to deliver helpful, tailored responses.

In the automotive realm, Gemini will enhance Android Auto and Google Built-in systems. Guemmy Kim, Senior Director of Android UX, showcased how drivers can employ Gemini to summarize incoming messages, translate communications, and even retrieve literary synopses—ideal for those last-minute book club discussions. For instance, you could request a summary of Pride and Prejudice along with topics for discussion.

Gemini will initially debut on the Android Auto app, with subsequent integration into vehicles equipped with Google Built-in operating systems.

Television is another domain where Gemini will leave its imprint. Similar to how Netflix and other streaming services are incorporating AI capabilities, Google TV will soon embrace Gemini. Users will be able to request personalized movie recommendations using natural language or seek educational content from YouTube. This enhancement is anticipated to launch in the coming months, presumably alongside the rollout of Android 16.

Looking forward, Google also revealed that Gemini will be introduced to Android XR (extended reality) devices sometime next year.

While this event served as a preview ahead of the main Google I/O conference, it’s evident that Gemini is becoming a pivotal component of Google’s approach across devices. Anticipate even more AI-driven announcements from Google in the upcoming days.
