Revamped on July 24 at 9:30 a.m. ET — Mashable’s Tech Editor Timothy Beck Werth first examined the beta iteration of Google Shopping’s “Try it on” feature in May when it was initially made available for testing. Currently, Google is launching the feature for all users in the United States on both desktop and mobile platforms. You can now dive into this digital Clueless wardrobe within Google Shopping—simply click on an apparel item and search for the “Try it on” button.
During Google I/O 2025, the tech giant introduced a variety of new AI functionalities, including a virtual clothing try-on solution.
The Google Shopping “Try it on” feature enables users to upload a picture of themselves and virtually don clothes, effectively animating the Clueless wardrobe for millennials who have envisioned it since 1995. As Mashable Shopping Reporter Haley Henschel illustrated, “Google’s newest shopping tool transforms Cher Horowitz’s digitized closet into reality.”
Shortly after the feature’s launch, users started attempting to “jailbreak” the tool, a customary practice among tech reviewers anytime a new AI model or tool is announced. On Friday, The Atlantic reported that “Google’s fresh AI shopping instrument seems keen to give J.D. Vance breasts.” Quite amusing, isn’t it? However, what’s less humorous is that the same tool will also create breasts for images of underage users, according to The Atlantic.
I chose to evaluate the “Try it on” feature and will share the positive, negative, and embarrassing elements below. As a shopping tool, I’m quite impressed.

Take a full-body photograph of yourself and upload it
Visit Google Shopping and select a product you wish to “try on”
