Lenovo’s voice-activated twisting laptop is anticipated to debut later this year, and Mashable had the chance to experience it at CES 2026. The tech giant has one matter to address before it becomes accessible to consumers this summer, but on the whole, the device provides an inventive take on the 2-in-1 design.
Revealed on Tuesday, the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist is a unique hybrid business computer showcasing a swiveling 14-inch touchscreen that rotates on a motorized hinge. Users can manually open, close, and adjust its lid or utilize the voice command “Hey Tiko” followed by an instruction. It can seamlessly transition between clamshell and tablet modes without any manual assistance. The display can pivot 90 degrees to the right and a full 180 degrees to the left.
The Auto Twist comes with additional features. Its 10MP webcam can track your face, and if you shift too far to one side, the device will automatically adjust its screen to ensure it always faces you, making it perfect for presentations.
Moreover, the Auto Twist’s webcam includes an AI-enhanced “Desk View” function that enables it to analyze surrounding objects. A Lenovo representative showcased its capability to recognize a spec card beside it; the device’s lid turned to allow the camera to scan its features. It also gauged the dimensions and cost of the spiral notebook I was holding. (Six-by-eight inches, $5 to $10, college-ruled.)
Engaging the Auto Twist’s “Companion Mode” reveals a pair of eyes on its display that evokes a minimalist version of Nick Jr. “Face.” When interacting with it, the screen’s position alters as it “thinks” and “expresses emotions.” Is it essential? No. Is it charming? A bit!
I faced a challenge when manually rotating the Auto Twist’s display back from tablet mode, causing the image to stay upside-down. A Lenovo representative was able to correct it within the settings menu, but I hope a solution is implemented prior to launch.
The Auto Twist was first presented as a prototype at the IFA trade show in September 2024. Lenovo asserts that the market-ready version features a quicker, quieter, smoother, and more robust hinge with an enhanced electromotor design. It also comes with an upgraded 2.8K OLED display.
The Auto Twist is driven by an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor featuring integrated Intel Graphics, with options for up to 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage. Its OLED display provides a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness. The Dolby Atmos speakers rotate with the screen to ensure they remain front-facing, delivering clear audio quality.
The battery life of the Auto Twist hasn’t been rated, but Lenovo’s press release indicates that its 75Wh battery “ensures prolonged productivity.”
The device has a variety of ports, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack. It measures between 0.63 to 0.94 inches in thickness and starts at 3.09 pounds in weight. Available in a Luna Gray finish, it is slated for release in June at an initial price of $1,649.
The Auto Twist marks Lenovo’s third effort at creating a laptop with a twisting display, following the 2012 ThinkPad Twist and the 2023 ThinkPad Plus Twist. The latter was notable for featuring a second e-ink touchscreen on the back of its lid, but neither of the previous models supported voice commands, giving the Auto Twist a superior advantage in accessibility.
The Auto Twist should not be mistaken for Lenovo’s ThinkBook VertiFlex Concept from IFA 2025, which showcased a screen that rotated from landscape to portrait mode, akin to a Samsung Sero TV. Lenovo’s communications manager Jeff Witt stated via email that it remains a concept for the time being. “Please bear with us,” he said.
