Elon Musk’s Tesla Diner, the avant-garde, UFO-shaped eatery in Los Angeles, may be on the lookout for a new head chef. The Los Angeles Times revealed that chef and co-owner Eric Greenspan is stepping away from the endeavor. Greenspan indicated that he is departing to focus on launching his new enterprise, a Jewish deli, despite having faced some backlash for his association with Musk.
“I am stepping away from the Tesla Diner initiative to concentrate on opening Mish, my long-dreamed-of Jewish deli,” Greenspan communicated to the LA Times in a text message. “Endeavors like Mish and the Tesla Diner demand a keen focus and dedication, and my focus and dedication are now firmly on Mish.”
Mashable visited the Tesla Diner in August, which features traditional offerings like burgers, fries, and shakes, but with distinct names inspired by Musk. You can find dishes such as “electric sauce,” “autopilot avocado toast,” a “giga burger,” and the previously available “epic bacon.” The food garnered fair reviews from Mashable editor Neal Broverman, though it was deemed pricey given the portion sizes.
This isn’t the first notable alteration at the Tesla Diner. Soon after its launch, diners observed that the menu had been slimmed down, resulting in the removal of “epic bacon.” The LA Times also mentioned that the diner was contemplating shifting to a full-service format; presently, orders are made via a tablet with counter service. Now, with the chef’s exit, the future of Musk’s restaurant is left in question.
