In May, Match Group, the organization responsible for Tinder, Hinge, and various other platforms, acquired HER, a dating application aimed at queer women, nonbinary, and trans sapphics.
Following the acquisition, HER launched a new feature dubbed “Feelings” this summer. This feature serves as a status update, enabling users to articulate themselves more candidly and share their present mood or intentions.
“Feelings” are labels added to profiles to inform prospective matches about what users are looking for or their current emotional state. Users can also include a brief note to offer additional context. Once configured, “Feelings” are displayed on profiles, within the app’s discovery section, matches, and chats, guaranteeing clear communication of intentions. These labels vanish after 48 hours to keep profiles current.
To utilize “Feelings,” users simply navigate to their profile page and select the “How are you feeling?” question. Available options include “Just talking,” “Go on a date,” “Flirty,” and “Hook up.” Users can opt for a maximum of three tags and include a line of text if they wish, then click “update my Feelings.”
If users observe a “Feeling” tag on another profile that resonates with them, they can tap a plus sign (+) to incorporate it into their own profile.
The objective is to enhance conversations with reduced anxiety, removing any doubt about whether someone is pursuing something casual or a serious relationship.
