What is Connections?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game has taken social media by storm. The Times attributes the creation of this innovative word game for the Games section to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu. Connections can be accessed on both web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to group together four words that share a common connection.

Each puzzle contains 16 words split into four distinct categories. These groups may encompass anything from book titles to software names or countries. While several words might appear to be associated, only one set has the correct grouping.

If a player accurately identifies all four words in a category, those words are cleared from the board. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake—players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate finding connections. Moreover, each group is assigned a color-code: yellow signifies the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you are able to share your results on social media.
