What is Connections?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game has turned into a phenomenon on social media. The Times attributes the creation of this new word game to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, who added it to the publication’s Games category. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices, requiring participants to categorize four words based on a common link.

Every puzzle consists of 16 words, sorted into four groups. These groups can range from book titles to names of software or countries. Although several words might appear compatible, there is only one accurate solution.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a group, those words are taken off the board. An incorrect guess is counted as an error—players can make up to four errors before the game concludes.

Players also have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board to help identify connections more easily. Moreover, each group is color-coded, with yellow indicating the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social media.
