What is Connections?

The latest daily word game from the NYT has taken social media by storm. The Times attributes credit to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu for contributing to the development of this new word game and incorporating it into the publication’s Games section. Connections can be accessed on web browsers and mobile devices, challenging players to group four words sharing a common theme.

Every puzzle features 16 words, sorted into four categories. These groups can include anything from book titles to software or nation names. Although several words might appear to fit together, only one answer is correct.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess is counted as a mistake—players can afford up to four mistakes before the game concludes.
