What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge is presented in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times platform for sports journalism. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to categorize four words that share a common link.

Each puzzle features 16 words, segmented into four categories. These groups can range from book titles to software or country designations. While multiple words may appear to form a connection, there is only one accurate grouping.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the game board. An erroneous guess counts as a mistake—players can make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are also permitted to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the discovery of connections. Furthermore, each group is identified by a color code: yellow is the simplest, succeeded by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, outcomes can be shared with friends via social media.
