Hollow Knight: Silksong developers Team Cherry delighted gamers last month by revealing the much-anticipated indie title will debut on Sept. 4. Fans have been eagerly looking forward to Silksong since Team Cherry first announced the sequel to Hollow Knight in 2019, with the action-adventure platformer earning the distinction of the most wishlisted game on Steam. Up until August, there had been minimal updates or signs of its impending arrival.
Fans are thrilled about Silksong’s release date, particularly one that is so soon. The excitement has been heightened by the announcement that Silksong will be priced at only $19.99 — a deal fans view as a fantastic bargain.
The excitement surrounding Silksong has been so significant that many other games have postponed their release dates to steer clear of competition. With gamers eager to dive into Silksong this week, it will be challenging for other new games to attract attention.
Here are a few indie titles that have mentioned Silksong as the reason for delaying their launches, listed by their new release dates. Keep them in mind when you need a break from battling through Silksong’s bug kingdom.
Little Witch in the Woods
The complete version of Sunny Side Up’s witchcraft simulator Little Witch in the Woods was initially slated to launch on Sept. 4. The team has delayed its release to Sept. 15 following Team Cherry’s announcement.
“Shortly after we revealed our Sept. 4 release date, we discovered that Hollow Knight: Silksong — a highly awaited new title from a masterpiece in the gaming realm — is debuting on the same day,” stated Sunny Side Up. “Silksong is a game we admire deeply as developers and look forward to as players. Given its vast influence, we are concerned that releasing Little Witch in the Woods on the same day would demoralize our dedicated team and disappoint our loyal audience.”
Sunny Side Up shared an illustration of the protagonist from Little Witch in the Woods lying defeated on the ground, with Silksong’s protagonist Hornet’s shadow looming over her.
Baby Steps
While Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy became a viral sensation in its own right, Foddy’s upcoming project Baby Steps is wisely choosing to avoid competing with Silksong. Publisher Devolver Digital has revealed that the walking simulator has moved its previous Sept. 8 launch date to Sept. 23.
Developers Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Foddy have not explicitly mentioned Silksong as the reason for the delay. However, Devolver Digital’s trailer featuring a giant statue of Silksong’s Hornet makes the message clear.
“Baby Steps protagonist Nate is allergic to hornets,” shared Devolver Digital.
CloverPit
The “rogue-lite slot machine nightmare” and “never-ending debt simulator” CloverPit was originally set to launch on Sept. 3 but will now arrive on Sept. 26.
“Some of you may have suspected the reason for the delay: Hollow Knight: Silksong,” stated Panik Arcade. “Silksong is the most awaited and wishlisted game on Steam, and we believe players will love this game and play it right at launch (including us), but that also means it will overshadow all games launching nearby. Therefore, if we adhere to our original date, we would jeopardize CloverPit’s launch quite a bit.”
Demonschool
Necrosoft Games’ Demonschool has had its launch pushed back, moving its original Sept. 3 release date more than a month later. The Shin Megami Tensei-inspired turn-based tactical RPG will now debut on Nov. 19.
“The Ysbryd team firmly believes we would not be doing our game any favors by venturing into waters we can clearly see are blood red,” announced Demonschool’s publisher Ysbryd Games. “If September is to be Silksong’s time to shine, then we need to place ourselves elsewhere on the calendar to allow Demonschool its own moment to be recognized and discussed meaningfully.”
“This was not our decision, but we comprehend why the decision was made,” stated Necrosoft Games. “We are not upset with Ysbryd but with the situation. Dropping the GTA of indie games with two weeks’ notice makes everyone panic… Still would have preferred to compete with Silksong.”
