How Alien: Earth Engulfs You in the Alien World Right from the Beginning

FX’s *Alien: Earth* does more than just honor Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic — creator, writer, and director Noah Hawley acquired the genuine set blueprints.

Mashable engaged in a discussion with Hawley, executive producer David W. Zucker, and the cast of *Alien: Earth* to explore the inaugural TV series in the Alien franchise.

Set in 2120, *Alien: Earth* unfolds merely two years prior to *Alien*, in 2122. The series’ opening scene may occur on the Weyland-Yutani spacecraft USCSS Maginot, but it evokes the nostalgia of being back on the Nostromo, the vessel where Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley first encountered the feared Xenomorph.

“We received the blueprints from the Nostromo, and we constructed the ship to correspond. Our cryochamber is larger, our comms room is larger, due to narrative needs,” Hawley shared with Mashable UK Editor Shannon Connellan. “However, the mess hall is precisely the same down to the props. The bridge is exactly the same down to the props.”

Hawley mentioned that most of the *Alien: Earth* cast and crew shared similar responses upon entering the set.

“Stepping onto those sets for the first time takes you back to your childhood, and then you turn around and see everyone who enters those sets feeling exactly the same. I believe that enhances the authenticity of the experience.”

*Alien: Earth* debuts on Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. ET on Hulu and FX with two episodes, followed by weekly releases on Tuesdays.
