How Is the Murderbot Ensemble Linked to the Murderbot Series?

In Apple TV+’s latest sci-fi adventure series Murderbot, Alexander Skarsgård plays a security cyborg that escapes its human programming — only to indulge in binge-watching its beloved TV shows during its newfound freedom. While it continues to safeguard human clients, it doesn’t shy away from expressing its views: “Humans are fucking stupid.”

Despite its contempt for humanity, Murderbot may actually resonate more than you might think — and the cast is on board with that.

Mashable entertainment journalist Belen Edwards interviewed the ensemble cast — featuring Skarsgård (Murderbot), Noma Dumezweni (Mensah), David Dastmalchian (Gurathin), Sabrina Wu (Pin-Lee), Tattiawna Jones (Arada), Akshay Khanna (Ratthi), and Tamara Podemski (Bharadwaj) — to explore which of Murderbot’s traits they recognize in themselves.

“All of them?” Skarsgård quipped. “Maybe that’s an issue I should discuss with my psychiatrist.”

He continued, “I found a real connection with Murderbot. There’s so much humanity there, and it was incredibly fun to delve into that throughout the season.”

The cast also shared insights about Murderbot’s requirement for a serene “recharging corner,” its social ineptitude, and its habit of silently evaluating others. But the pressing question lingers: Do any of them possess Murderbot’s more… deadly instincts? You’ll need to watch the complete interview to discover the answer.

Murderbot premieres May 16 on Apple TV+.
