Huge Nintendo Direct Set for This Week: Schedule and Watching Information

Who is bothered by Apple? There’s a Nintendo Direct happening this week!

Following weeks of speculation and rumors, Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Direct livestream set for Friday, Sept. 12 at 6am PT/9am ET. As per usual, Nintendo offered minimal hints about what will be revealed, except for “approximately 60 minutes of details on upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch titles.” You can tune in on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

Attentive readers may observe that 60 minutes is an extended timeframe for a Nintendo Direct. Typically, these events cap at around 45 minutes, although the significant Switch 2 showcase Direct from April also ran about 60 minutes. There’s likely no new hardware to discuss this time, so it’s uncertain how Nintendo will fill all that time. It’s worth noting that not only Switch 2 titles will be featured; the original Switch will also be represented.

We can at least make a few informed predictions. Metroid Prime 4 remains the biggest unknown in the 2025 release calendar at this juncture, as Nintendo has consistently stated it is arriving this year without providing a specific date yet. If these 60 minutes conclude without a release date for Prime 4, then something must be amiss. I would wager on Nintendo delivering what we desire in this respect, though.

Aside from that, we can deduce a few other possibilities through elimination. Kirby Air Riders was recently showcased in a 45-minute Direct a few weeks prior, so it is unlikely to receive more than a brief mention. The same applies to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is set for an October release and has already received ample marketing. Hollow Knight: Silksong is already released, so that’s settled. Personally, I would keep an eye on Hades 2, which is expected to launch this year but, similar to Metroid, currently lacks a release date.

Other potential titles include upcoming entries in the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises, both of which have been quiet long enough that it might be time to unveil what’s next. The Switch 2 iteration of Elden Ring is also projected for release this year and likewise has no confirmed launch date. Regarding From Software, it would be nice to receive some new updates on their Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, but I’m not banking on that.

A few smaller announcements I would anticipate include new Switch 2 enhancements for original Switch games, as well as a new GameCube title for the Nintendo Classics collection. The former is nearly guaranteed since every previously announced Switch 2 upgrade is already available.
