I Tested LG’s Latest 5K2K Curved Gaming Monitor at CES 2025

LG has consistently been a highlight at CES, capturing attention with its state-of-the-art televisions and displays. Last year, the company amazed viewers with its transparent TV screens, which have made a comeback at this year’s exhibition. However, in 2025, LG has firmly established itself as the leader of CES, presenting such remarkable innovations that one of its most awaited products—the LG UltraGear GX9 series bendable OLED gaming monitor—didn’t even appear on the public show floor.

The LG 45GX990A, renowned as the world’s first 5K2K bendable gaming monitor, has already secured three Innovation Awards at CES 2025. Mashable received an exclusive preview of the device during the event and even got a hands-on look at its distinctive bendable screen.

At its heart, the 45GX990A is a remarkable piece of technology. Featuring a 45-inch OLED display with a 5K2K resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio, it offers breathtaking picture quality. It also includes LG’s Dual Mode, enabling users to easily toggle between aspect ratios and modify the picture size at the push of a button. But what truly distinguishes this monitor is its bending capability.

Indeed, the LG UltraGear GX9 is not merely a high-resolution monitor—it’s a transformer. With a simple button press, the screen shifts from a flat view to a curved style and back again, all without manual intervention. During the demonstration, LG illustrated this functionality using two large red buttons that bent the screen in real-time. Nonetheless, the consumer edition will come with a remote control for effortless use.

When engaged, the flat screen morphs into an 800R curved display, producing a striking visual contrast. To highlight this, LG arranged flat, curved, and bendable monitors side by side during the demonstration, allowing attendees to fully grasp the transformation.

While curved monitors are mainly intended to boost immersion for gamers, they aren’t suitable for everyone. This is where the bendable design excels—it accommodates users who desire the versatility of both flat and curved displays, whether for gaming, work, or other applications. It serves as a perfect option for individuals who are torn between the two formats or require both for various situations.

That being said, the product isn’t yet ready for full launch. The remote control was not available at the event, indicating that some final adjustments are still being made. However, the monitor was featured alongside LG’s other forthcoming consumer products, indicating it’s far from a mere prototype. Unfortunately, LG has not yet revealed a release date or pricing for the bendable gaming monitor.

With its groundbreaking design and impressive specifications, the LG UltraGear GX9 is set to revolutionize the gaming display market. While there’s no news yet on its availability, it’s undoubtedly clear that LG is expanding the limits of display technology.
