Instagram Finally Lands on iPad

Instagram has at last unveiled an iPad app, 15 years subsequent to the launches of both the tablet and the social media platform. The app is now available for download, showcasing notable distinctions between the experiences on iPhone and iPad. The iPad app guides users toward Reels, which is logical considering the audience’s inclination for watching videos on a larger display.

Familiar functionalities persist, such as Stories positioned at the top of the screen and a following tab to explore posts from key accounts. The app is tailored for portrait orientation, which corresponds with the typical way of viewing Instagram content.

Instagram announced in a press release that the iPad experience was tailored with the bigger screen in mind. They mentioned:

“When constructing Instagram for iPad, our intention was to leverage the larger display to provide users with more features with fewer taps, while maintaining simplicity. We’ve streamlined the process to keep up with your messages and notifications through layouts that showcase both tabs. When engaging with reels, you can enlarge the comments while keeping the reel at full size, allowing you to catch the best responses without losing a moment.”

The introduction of an iPad app signifies a notable change for Instagram. CEO Adam Mosseri had earlier indicated in 2022 that creating an iPad app was “not a big enough group of people to be a priority,” although the company aspired to tackle it eventually.
