You are able to acquire the new Nintendo Switch 2 console via Amazon; however, it requires more than just clicking “Add to Cart.”
Following its launch on June 5, the Nintendo Switch 2 experienced variable stock levels, complicating acquisition for several months. Thankfully, two months post-launch, the availability has seen enhancements, making the Nintendo Switch 2 more accessible. Nonetheless, Amazon was notably missing from our ongoing Switch 2 stock monitoring.
As reported by The Verge, Nintendo removed its listing from Amazon last year because of a pricing disagreement. Since then, Nintendo console listings on Amazon typically came from unreliable third-party vendors. However, Amazon has now repaired its partnership with Nintendo, and the Switch 2 is up for purchase on Amazon — provided you meet the eligibility criteria.
Amazon provides Switch 2 consoles by invitation only
All Nintendo Switch 2 listings on Amazon are fulfilled and sold by Amazon, not dubious third-party vendors. Nonetheless, all Nintendo Switch 2 consoles (including the Mario Kart World Switch 2 Bundle) are available only by request. What does that entail?
Rather than ‘Add to Cart’ or “Buy Now with 1 Click” buttons, you’ll encounter a ‘request invite’ option. If selected, you will receive an email containing a purchase link that is valid for 22 hours after it is sent. An Amazon account is necessary to request an invite.
This system has been implemented to thwart bots and price gougers from purchasing the entire stock of the coveted console, which is commendable. A notification on the Switch 2 product page indicates, “To guarantee that as many authentic customers as possible can obtain this high-demand item, we are selling it by invitation. If chosen to purchase, you will receive an email when the product is available. Not every request will be fulfilled.”
Upon clicking the button, this message will appear: “Invitation requested, thank you! If chosen to purchase, you will receive an email with a link that is valid for 22 hours. We will not be able to accommodate all requests.”
Nintendo employs a comparable invite-only system to deter price gouging with the Switch 2, which has already set new sales records for Nintendo.
In addition to the console, Amazon also sells the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle for $499. While not officially on sale, it provides a minor discount. The console usually retails for $449.99 and Mario Kart World (highly recommended) is priced at $79.99, but when bundled, you can obtain both for $499, resulting in a savings of $30.98.
