There are a plethora of Easter eggs and crossovers in IT: Welcome to Derry, making it occasionally difficult to pinpoint the origin of a familiar element.
The conclusion of episode 4 is comparable, showcasing a final glimpse of a residence that appears strikingly recognizable.
But from where do we know it, and what does it signify? Let’s dive into this.
What is the conclusion of episode 4?
Episode 4 sheds light on the origins of Pennywise, featuring Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk) delving into the psyche of local tribe member Taniel (Joshua Odjick) and unraveling the history of the beast that the Native Americans in Derry refer to as “the Galloo.”
“They discovered the cave and shattered pieces of the ancient star that the Galloo came in,” Taniel explains. “A strategy was devised — not to eliminate it, but to imprison it. They would utilize the fragments of its original bindings, the sole entity the Galloo feared, to restore safety to our people. The children encircled the western woods, which had long been the monster’s hunting territory, and they buried 13 sacred shards deep within the ground. Over each stone, they ignited a fire to signify its location, a boundary the Galloo could not traverse. Our ancestors pledged to safeguard the pillars and keep their locations concealed so that the monster confined within could never escape.”
At this juncture, Hallorann emerges in the memories of young Taniel to communicate with him directly, inquiring about the location of the pillars — which the military believes they can exploit against the monster.
“Follow the tunnels beneath the old well, and you’ll discover the pillars,” Taniel responds. However, it is not a well we observe next; it is a residence.
Why is that house so recognizable?
The dilapidated house at the conclusion of the episode feels recognizable, and not solely because an image of it features in IT: Welcome to Derry‘s opening sequence. This is the well house, also known as the House on Neibolt Street, which appears in both the book and Andy Muschietti’s films. It is a pivotal setting in the narrative, concealing a well that directly descends into the sewers where the creature lurks.
It appears we might be reminiscing in episode 5.
