JetBlue Unveils Apple AirTag for Baggage Monitoring

If you possess an AirTag in your suitcase, JetBlue can now utilize your tracking information to find your bags in case they go missing. The airline has announced that they are incorporating the iOS 18 Share Item Location feature, enabling customers to monitor their luggage. Customers have the option to use the Find My feature on their iPhones to safely share the location of the AirTag within their luggage with JetBlue if it goes missing. This integration was verified alongside the introduction of a new JetBlue app that offers real-time updates on checked baggage.

“This innovative in-app bag tracking capability, along with AirTag location sharing for bag retrieval, aims to provide customers reassurance when checking their bags with JetBlue,” stated Carol Clements, JetBlue’s chief digital and technology officer.

The Share Item Location feature was introduced as part of iOS 18.2 in November 2024. In addition to AirTags, gadgets utilizing Find My network functionalities can transmit luggage tracking information to JetBlue, according to the statement.

JetBlue joins more than a dozen airlines that have confirmed intentions to implement Share Item Location luggage tracking in their offerings since Apple introduced the feature last year. Airlines that have confirmed intentions include:

– Aer Lingus
– Air Canada
– Air New Zealand
– Austrian Airlines
– British Airways
– Brussels Airlines
– Delta Air Lines
– Eurowings
– Iberia
– KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
– Lufthansa, Qantas
– Singapore Airlines
– Swiss International Air Lines
– Turkish Airlines
– United
– Virgin Atlantic
– Vueling

United Airlines initiated the feature in December 2024.

How to provide Share Item Location data to JetBlue:

1. In your Find My app, available on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, create a Share Item Location link.
2. Send the link to JetBlue by scanning a QR code in the baggage claim area or sharing the information with a crew member at the Baggage Service Office, according to the statement.

JetBlue indicates that their access to the AirTags concludes once customers retrieve their lost luggage.
