Jimmy Kimmel has reacted to the updates regarding the potential TikTok sale, with the U.S. and China seemingly having reached an agreement on the “framework” of a deal. Although specifics are scarce, it is anticipated that U.S. software giant Oracle will have a significant role in the acquisition. Oracle is headed by Larry Ellison, an ally of President Donald Trump, who serves as the company’s co-founder, executive chairman, and chief technology officer.
“Now rather than the Chinese government collecting our thoughts, interests, and private data, it will be Trump’s friend instead,” Kimmel quipped. “At least it’s someone we can trust, right?”
Kimmel also touched upon the Emmy Awards that took place on Sunday night, where Guillermo spoke with winners including Britt Lower and Tramell Tillman from Severance, Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham from Adolescence, and Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart from Hacks.
“We snatched the Best Talk Show award at the Emmys,” Kimmel declared to the audience’s applause. “I should clarify, we didn’t actually win; we lost. But thanks for tuning in.”
The Late Show ultimately took home the award for Outstanding Talk Series, with the Emmy attendees giving host Stephen Colbert two standing ovations in an overwhelming show of approval.
