A gathering took place on Friday in Alaska involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which featured several awkward incidents and photographs, without reaching any consensus on a ceasefire regarding Ukraine.
Beginning Last Week Tonight with an overview of the week’s significant events, John Oliver touched on the meeting between Trump and Putin, making his stance clear.
“Trump traveled to Alaska to converse about Ukraine with Putin for fewer than three hours, after which they conducted a press conference that went so poorly that even this Fox News reporter struggled to portray it positively,” Oliver remarked, then displaying a clip of Senior White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich conveying “the atmosphere in the room” as “not good.”
“Indeed, not great, and although the White House subsequently shared this black-and-white image of Trump appearing tough while speaking to Putin, it appears the mood was more faithfully depicted by this AP image of Putin exuding confidence, while Trump seemed as though that room temperature shrimp is making a comeback,” Oliver stated.
